I Just Went Shopping at DSW.com

Well fellow DSW fans, we've been waiting for this day for a long time, and it's finally here. DSW.com now allows customers to buy shoes online.

I spent an hour or so on the site already, and purchased 2 pairs of shoes). I have to say, I'm excited and impressed. And even though Tuesday is the day of their official launch (with Monday having been a bit of a soft opening), I encountered only a few problems -- which is pretty amazing for a site this size.

First, I had a bit of a problem figuring out how to tie my Premier Rewards membership number to my newly created DSW.com account. Now, that I've done it, I realize the instructions were pretty clear -- I was just too excited to actually read them.

So take my advice, and read the instructions before creating an account -- especially if you're already a DSW Rewards Member, because there are special promotional offers that you'll want to cash in on, including free shipping for a limited time.

If you're not already a Rewards member, you can sign up on the spot -- it's easy and free. If you have no interest in their Rewards programs, you don't have to sign up for anything, you can just start shopping.

Once I got my account set up, and my DSW Rewards number was in place, I started shopping. The site was incredibly easy to navigate, and I especially liked the "Style Spotlight" page, which highlighted several hot trends and "must haves."

It was under the "Fine Prints" heading that I found my first purchase: the awesome print sling-backs from Mia pictured above. Ironically, they were also my second purchase.

I have this kind of neurological twitch that just makes me click and buy when I see something I really want or need (usually red shoes at a really good price).

So, I saw the Mia Lucie in red, and my condition took over. Seconds later, I'd checked out with them.

Then I saw they had them in two other shades: blue and yellow. I didn't feel too bad at first because I don't really fall for blue too easily, and yellow isn't really a good color on me, but I clicked to look anyway.

Wait a minute! What I'd mistaken as a "yellow" version had lots of olive green and purple in the print and black patent accents ... they were hardly yellow at all -- they were perfect for me.

I let them torture me for a few hours and then I went back and bought them too. But it's okay, I've earned enough discounts at DSW over the years to justify the extra purchase.

If you have DSW Rewards certificates or gift cards lying around, you can use them on the site. On my wish list for future features would be a way to instantly tap into my DSW Rewards points for online shoe shopping, bypassing the certificate completely. But, you know, these are early days.

I'll be writing a full review of the site soon, but my first impressions are very positive, and I'm thrilled that the DSW online store up and open for business.

No wides, as usual….when they get w/the program I’ll check them out. Not everyone wears a medium width.

It looks like they carry a lot of wides and varying widths, actually.

Excellent!
My DSW is quite a ways away, but I always score when I shop there. Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah Jean, it is very good news indeed. New online shoe stores always make me a happy girl. Their stores vary from location to location, (some seem to have more high end labels than others) but matter which one I’m at, I always find great deals.

Gail, as Kim said, they do have a few wide widths, but you’re right, they could use more. But it’s early days still … maybe they’ll add some in the future. Here’s hoping they do!

This is ‘in praise’ of your Stephanie (and Monica, also was very helpful) at your DSW Ventura Blvd store. Yesterday I called asking for a certain shoe for my friend, Susan… Stephanie not only checked it out for me…she had to call another store to get the correct number of the shoe…she then called me back….held the shoes for us until we got there. In this day and age…this is such RARE customer service….almost unheard of! I hope you are paying her well!!! And because we were both so surprised..and pleased…I wanted to let the CEO or whoever of DSW know.
