Last week, I posted the following topic for the always intriguing Carnivale of the Couture.

While it's easy to get caught up in the latest trends and the newest offerings from the hottest designers, there are times when even the most devout fashionista will opt for function over fashion.

So ... it's not a big night out, there's nary a potential partner in sight, and there is no office dress code. Which shoes do you reach for when you're only dressing to impress yourself?

I was happy to see how others responded, as I couldn't really come up with one single answer myself. I have several go-to shoes.

Cute, cozy mules and comfy suede clogs see me through most winters.

In the summer I search for flip-flops that get a lot of attention -- rhinestones and bows embellishing a comfortable pair of thongs get me so excited, I usually have several pair on hand.

In addition to seeing everyone's fabulous responses to my query, the best part of hosting the Carnivale of the Couture was finding new sites to visit.

• ShoeSense is new to me, but is such a cool site, I can guarantee I'll visit it again. With a passion for stylish comfort, Scarpediem hosts an entertaining and informative blog, that every shoe lover should check out.

  But perhaps more importantly, she chose one of the cutest pair of "go-to" shoes I've ever seen. Though they're on the "difficult to find" list, her orange velvet and metallic leather flats from Cole Haan, are currently topping my footwear wish-list. I believe they're called "Edgewater," and I'm definitely on the prowl for a pair. You must see them.

• The super-fantastic Manolo is a man after my own heart, choosing my much loved Adidas as his choice for informal footwear - his choice was the classic leather Rod Lavers.

  But while the rest of us might lounge in clogs and flip-flops, his fashion sense is keen even when no one is watching. Check out the sweet, sweet Bally shoes he selected as his "jaunty man about town shoes."

• Rondi from Begin Each Day as if it Were on Purpose sings the praises of the classic Saddle Shoe as her favorite go-to shoes for cooler weather.
• Despite the fact that she struggled to admit that sometimes comfort did come first, we can all learn a thing or two about being cute and comfortable from designer Ella at Kiss Me, Stace.

  Her favorites? A trendy sneaker-esque skimmer from Report, and Isotoner slippers for lounging around the house.

• The Space Between My Peers knows comfort and wisely chose Chaco Sandals as her hands-down favorite go-to shoe.
• And while I truly loved reading all of the responses, and learning about so many great blog sites, I probably most identify with Shoelover for choosing the Converse Chuck Taylor as one of the best go-to shoes around.

  But I do have a bit of advice -- feel no shame, my chuck-loving friend -- they're a footwear legend for a reason.
