There's lots of faux fur, trendy styling, chunky heels and suede uppers among this season's hottest winter boots, so there's lots to be excited about. Check out these top picks in women's winter boots for casual styles that will make you wishing it would snow year-round.
1. Columbia "Ursala's Edge"
These are actually a carry-over from last season, but I don't know if I've ever loved a casual boot more, and I don't know how I could possibly decide between the racy black or the cool winter white version of these fabulous winter boots. Unusual and edgy, these mid-calf boots feature waterproof suede uppers and leather uppers that have been treated with Scotchgard for added protection. But the real piece de resistance is the faux shearling lining which tops the boot in a messy, shaggy halo of fluff -- fabulous.
2. DC "Chalet"
One of the most well-reviewed winter boots at Zappos.com, the DC Chalet is cute, puffy, and sure to grab attention. With a shaft circumference of 16 inches, these boots will accommodate larger calves better than many styles, and color options include black with pink, brown, white with blue, and white with pink.
3. Asics "Snow Heaven 72"
The Snow Heaven 72 comes in several different colorways, each of which looks as though a sneaker has swallowed a boot. That might sound like a bad thing, but in this case, it actually works. Though there are lots of different colors to choose from, it's the all-white and all black versions that vaulted these winter boots into my top picks. For an alternative but equally cute look, try folding shafts down to expose the faux fur lining.
4. Sorel "Joan of Arctic" - Funky Winter Boots
Full of fabulous funk and loads of cold-battling features, these winter boots are a fashion statement as well as a practical item. With faux fur collars, suede uppers, and tabbed lace fronts, they might sound like any other winter boot at first. But really sets these boots apart from the crowd is the waterproof rubber vamps. Check them out.
5. Earth "Summit"
I've admired these boots for a while now, but if you're not used to Earth's "Negative Heel Technology," they may take some getting used to. I'm absolutely crazy about the color options, and couldn't pick a favorite if I had to. Who could choose between shades like "Winter White," "Birch Old Stone" and the lovely green version shown here? They're cute and trendy, but at around $200, they're also a bit on the pricey side. If this brand isn't in your budget, they still serve as a good example of a great casual style for winter.
6. "Adrianne" - Tall Winter Boots from The North Face
I can not express how much I love these boots. From the sand brown color and the tall shaft, to the faux fur trim and lace-up front, these waterproof boots are among my favorite of the season. They're begging to be worn with skinny jeans, but for the fashion forward, they'd also add a funky touch to casual skirts.
7. Dr. Martens "Dana High Leg Boot 2"
I couldn't put a pair of stiletto on a list of winter boots in good conscience, but I know how much some of you love your heels, so I found the perfect compromise -- and I'm happy to say, it's one of my favorite styles on the list. With 2.25" chunky rubber heels, and luggish outsoles, these square-toed boots feature suede and leather uppers and a faux fur collar. The black is totally rock and roll, but the off white ... oh, the sweet, sweet off white ... it just makes my heart sing.
8. Bastien "Ivy"
Tall, trendy, and trimmed with fleece, these suede boots are water, salt and calcium resistant so you don't have to worry quite so much about wearing them after the salt truck has been down your street. With laces and inside zippers, these boots are easier to get in and out of than their pull-on counterparts, and you can't beat the hot, casual style. They're a natural for tucked-in jeans, but I love seeing boots like this paired with casual skirts as well. Available in black or brown.
9. DC "Chalet 2"
A new, more streamlined version of the beloved DC Chalet, the Chalet 2 is seriously speaking to me. While it definitely doesn't look as warm or cozy as its predecessor, I love that it's so sporty and unique. If you're looking for something tried, true and highly recommended by consumers, stick with the original, otherwise, be sure to give the Chalet 2 a look.
10. Sorel "Kaya"
If you're like me, you love a bit of fluff on your winter boots, but you might not always feel like pulling on a pair of really tall boots. Enter, the Sorel "Kaya." These short and sporty numbers look great, but more importantly, they'll actually keep your feet really warm -- they're rated for temperatures as low as -25 degrees F / -32 degrees C!
11. Skechers "Unique"
Skechers always has a great selection of casual winter boots, and this year, the "Unique" is among my favorites. The criss-crossed shaft belts are what makes them for me, but I also love the faux fur fold down collars that allow you to wear these boots up or turned down. Offered in black, sand, or my personal favorite, chocolate, I also really love the lug-styled rubber soles.
