Unfortunately, high heels may look good and be fashionable, but too often they're left wanting in the comfort department, leaving many to ponder one of the world's great mysteries: why can't someone make high heels that feel like sneakers? Launched in 2003, "Detny by Shane and Shawn" features footwear created by twin brothers and shoe designers Shawn and Shane Ward.

Having designed footwear for brands like Adidas, Puma, Fila and Converse, the duo had a vision to create cutting-edge fashionable footwear with the technology and comfort of a running shoe. On both counts, they've scored.

Can a Stylish Shoe Really Be Comfortable?

When I first saw Detny shoes, I was pretty sure that comfort was out of the question. The shoes had a pretty substantial stiletto heel, and quite frankly, they just looked too cool to be sensible. But it was exactly because they were so stylish that I really wanted to put them to the test.

For me, this meant wearing the shoes on concrete, a notoriously hard and uncomfortable surface. I spent about two hours standing, shuffling, and walking around in the heels.

My Thoughts on Detny Shoes

I'm not going to kid you, I was still aware that I was wearing heels, but this was due more to the added height and the style of the shoe, not because they were uncomfortable.

In fact, I never expected my experiment to last as long as it did. I assumed after a half hour or so, I'd be back on a more forgiving surface, or out of the heels until another occasion. But to my surprise and delight, even with my test lasting longer than I had anticipated, I didn't feel any of the discomfort usually associated with higher heels, and I couldn't have been happier with the cute, trendy look of the shoes.

While I wouldn't necessarily reach for a pair of Detny shoes over my beloved Adidas if I were heading out for a walk in the park, Detny has definitely made my short list of go-to brands for both style and comfort.
