As an art fan and an artist myself, I spend nearly as much time shopping for art as I do shopping for shoes. I spend a great deal of time searching web sites, galleries, shows, magazines, and pretty much anywhere for art to love. Happily, this time I didn't have to search any further than our own shoes forums.
The artist is photographer Doug Dourgarian, and the work is amazing.
Shoe Art: Digitally Painted Photographic Prints
While this artist works with a variety of subject matter, I was of course particularly drawn to his images of shoes and handbags. He began exploring this subject while shopping with his wife in Rome, where fortunately for us, Doug found inspiration from the elaborate window displays in the shopping district on the Vio Del Corso. The footwear images were an instant hit, and in one day, his first exhibit nearly sold out.Though his pieces begin as photographs, most of his work takes place on his computer. With 20 different artistic applications, Doug's techniques have been developed over the last nine years, and he typically uses 3 or 4 different programs on each piece. The shoes are stunning, and the photography is great, but it's the digital transformation that gives his work that special pop that you don't see very often.
About the Artist
Dourgarian has studied photography for over 35 years, and has accumulated hundreds of hours in the darkroom, but after discovering digital photography in 1993, he never looked back and now works solely in a digital format, using his computer as his darkroom. To learn more about Doug Dourgarian, and his shoe art, you can visit any of the following links.
