2007 Fall Shoes - A Preview of the Hottest Trends

A Peek at What's In Store for Shoes this Autumn

By Desiree Stimpert, About.com

Even though I'm still wearing flip-flops, the shoe stores tell me it's already time to start thinking about autumn -- and I know all of you are dying to know what footwear is in store for the 2007 fall season. Here's a preview of things to come.

Platform Soles and Extreme Heels

Platform shoes are the hottest footwear trend for fall, but the also making news are the extreme heels that are being paired with platform soles. Chunky, high, angular, wide, and even cone-shaped, this fall, the heels will be more extreme and sexier than ever.

Boots and Booties

Of course, the big footwear news any time the weather cools down is what's happening with boots, and this season. This fall, heeled boots and booties will be out in abundance, though for casual wear, you'll still be able to find plenty of flats.

While the slouchy look hasn't completely gone the wayside yet, it's threatening to look a little dated. On the opposite end of the trend spectrum, boots with buckles, fold-down collars and western accents are coming into their own.

Open Toes, Peep Toes and Round Toes

Fans of pointy-toed shoes need not get upset -- there will always be a wide selection of styles to choose from. But if like me, you love a round-toed shoe, you'll be in luck this fall, as footwear influenced by the 60s takes full advantage of the style.

And don't think that just because the temperature drops, you have to start hiding your toes. Open-toed styles will see you well into fall, and sexy Peep-Toe Shoes are hotter than ever.

Look for peep-toes and autumn sandals in some of the season's hottest fabrics: suede, velvet and patent.

Shoes for the Hottest Fall Fashions

They're never really out of style, but thanks to the popularity of mini dresses, this fall footed tights are even hotter than usual. Two shoe styles that work especially well with opaque hosiery are heeled mary janes, and ankle strap shoes. For a long, streamlined look, match tights to dark shoes. If you want to wear tights in a lighter or bright shade, match your shoes to one of the dominant hues in your skirt or dress.

Wide-legged trousers or jeans find their perfect match for those extreme heels I mentioned above -- especially those with chunky heels and platform soles.

And while platform shoes also work great with skinny jeans (assuming of course, you can pull of wearing skinny jeans), a thin high heel will keep the look from getting too clunky. Ballet flats (round or pointy-toed) are also a great option with skinny jeans.

The Colors of Autumn

Last fall, there was a trend towards more natural tones like browns, blacks and tans. While those colors are always popular choices for Autumn, I'm happy to say that this fall, there is an abundance of more colorful choices as well, with particular emphasis on deep, rich colors like dark red, forest green, royal blue, fuchsia, and golden yellow.

In evening shoes the hottest hues are black, red, purple and dark or natural metallics -- i.e. gold, silver, bronze and pewter.
