When Wearing Heels, How Long Should My Pants Be?

By Desiree Stimpert, About.com

Question: When Wearing Heels, How Long Should My Pants Be?

I've seen many women wearing various length of pants with their high-heels, but most of them seem to wear them so that the hem grazes the floor. What is the appropriate length for pants with heels?

Answer: The bottom of the pants really shouldn't be touching the floor. It can ruin the hemline of the slacks; a heel could get caught in the pants; and it's just a little on the sloppy side - especially in a professional atmosphere.

It's best if the hemline of the pants fall between the top of the heel and mid-heel (heel of the shoe, not heel of the foot), breaking at about back to mid-arch of your instep. You want the pant leg to hang straight, rather than bunching at the top of your foot.

Not allowing your pants to drag the floor, or gather at the top of your shoes gives a clean, professional and flattering appearance, and a long, lean silhouette.
