Women's Dress Boots

Top Picks for 2012 / 2013

A good pair of dress boots is one of the best investments a woman can make in her wardrobe. Not only are they great for wearing with skirts and dresses on fall and winter days, they're also fashionable, very flattering, and in a lot of cases, can even be worn with more casual outfits, like jeans or leggings.

For a look at some of the hottest styles of the 2012 / 2013 season, check out the following dress boots for women.

J Shoes 'Coco' - Slouchy Boots with Heels

Most of the boots on this list are very slim and streamlined, because that's the classic "dress boot" look, but that doesn't mean you have to wear fitted styles to feel and look dressed up. The 'Coco' from J Shoes serves as a great example of what to look for in a slouchier dress boot. The pointed toes, 3.75" conical heels, and matte leather uppers add enough dressy style that these boots very different from the round-toed, flat, slouch boots that are better suited to casual wear.

Pair boots like these with a skirt or dress, and you'll look as if you just strolled off a runway.

The 'Dayleen' from Calvin Klein is the epitome of a classic women's dress boot. The 2.75" heels add height while still being easy to wear; the dainty side buckles are a nice accent without being trendy or overdone; and the suede uppers will take you through fall and winter in style.

Available in black or brown, these boots are priced at just under $200 per pair.

Vigotti Silke - Mid-Calf Dress Boots

While it can be difficult to find flat dress shoes, there are loads of dressy flat boots to choose from. In fact, nearly any tall, flat boot that is free of trendy embellishments and really heavy soles can work wonders for a dress or skirt.

So, if you're looking for a pair of boots that can dress up leggings or jeans, but still hold their own with dressier outfits, just keep this general rule in mind: the simpler, the better -- and of course, black is the most versatile choice.

DKNY 'Randi' - Women's Dress Boots with Wedge Heels

Here's a pair of dress boots that are trendy and stylish, but not at all over-the-top.

The 4" covered wedge heels are sexy, and a bit more stable than stiletto heels of the same height; while the soft suede uppers and matte leather trim give them a classically dressy look. So, you can wear these boots now and feel all au currant, but they'll still look great a few years from now.

Boutique 9 'Feliece' - Dress Boots with Chunky High Heels

Personally, I don't wear many stiletto heels, so I'm always excited when I find a pair of pumps or boots that have a mid- to high-heel that's at least a bit on the round or chunky side. Needless to say, I'm crazy about these suede dress boots from Boutique 9.

Even though the 4.5" heels are a bit high for my liking, their chunkiness assures me that at least I won't be teetering on them. And, the soft, luxurious nubuck uppers are absolutely begging to be paired with a wintery skirt and tights or print stockings.

Vince Camuto Jardine - Dressy Ankle Boots

Though I'm a bit partial to knee-high boots, there are loads of over-the-knee, mid-calf, and even ankle boots that are dressy enough to wear to work, or for a night out on the town.

Take these super sexy ankle boots from Vince Camuto. They'd easily add a dressy feel to maxi skirts or dresses, and they'd also be ideal for wearing with dress pants, since taller boots can sometimes be a pain to wear under trousers.

Beyond that, they'd also be great for dressing up jeans or leggings -- let's face it, not every dressier occasion is that formal.

With 4.5" heels and 1.25" platform soles, these boots come in ruby or black suede. They might be a bit too racy or trendy for some, but they still serve as a good example of how an ankle boot can be dressy. If you wan't something a bit more classic, look for a similar style in leather or suede, without the platform sole and bold accents.

Stuart Weitzman '50/50' - Gorgeous Flat Dress Boots

Image: Piperlime.com
Despite their hefty price tag of nearly $600, these stunning boots from Stuart Weitzman have so much going for them, it would just be wrong to not include them on this list.

First off, there is the super-tall shaft height that allows these boots to be flatteringly paired with skirts and dresses of any length or shape. Then there is the slight 1" heel that means nearly any woman could wear them comfortably, whether she does a lot of standing/walking or not. And finally, there are the elasticized back panels that give these boots a bit of stretch, and give the wearer a more customized fit.

Available in black nappa, or bordo, navy or slate suede, the other great thing about these boots is that they'd look just as good with jeans and leggings as they would with dressier outfits.
